Özdemir Figen - Interview
Question: In 2010 you became German champion in the fitness class. How did you get into fitness sport?
Figen Özdemir: In 2010 I became the international German champion in the bikini class. On the one hand, I got into fitness sport through the Glucker sports school in Stuttgart. There I successfully completed my degree as a state-certified sports and gymnastics teacher. And secondly, of course, through my friend Mario Rieger.
Question: How do you train and what is your diet like?
Figen Özdemir: I train on the weight machines in the gym, just like any other athlete. With TRX, exercise balls, kettlebells and much more, I try to make the whole thing as versatile as possible. Since then, kickboxing has also been part of my program, but unfortunately I don't have the time at the moment ...
I eat very consciously all year round. Meat in all varieties, from chicken to beef steak, venison and of course fish should not be missing. In addition, fresh vegetables, rice, sweet potatoes and much more. are part of our meals. My protein shake after training should of course not be missing.
The most important thing at the end - our cheatday !!
Once a week we have a really good time. All goodies from pizza, ice cream, sweets and much more are allowed. I think a "shitty day" is very important to reward yourself and to motivate you again and again.
Question: What will change in preparation for a competition?
Figen Özdemir: In my competition preparation, the following changes in my training:
more cardio units - daily power walking around the lake with Mario's dog Budges.
My presentation for the stage is practiced regularly until it is 100% correct. I often treat myself to wellness units such as saunas to regenerate myself more quickly. Otherwise nothing changes in my strength training.
The diet in my preparation for a competition remains almost the same, as I eat specifically throughout the year.
As mentioned above, Mario and I live according to the fitness lifestyle.
I even use my cheatday up to two weeks before my competition day.
I try to increase protein in my preparation and drink a lot more than usual.
Question: What motivates you to exercise more and to keep a diet before the competition?
Figen Özdemir: On the one hand, I motivate myself before my competition because I definitely want to achieve the same performance from the last competition, if not always a bit better. I am usually very self-critical and ambitious and try to always give it my all as much as possible. Of course, there are also days when you are not as motivated, tired and exhausted. On these days, Mario motivates me and gives me great support in everything.
Question: You got a professional license. What are your future plans in this sport?
Figen Özdemir: My future plans as the first German IFBB Bikini Pro athlete are of course to be successful. Like my male colleagues from bodybuilding, I must expect to be overlooked by Americans.
That's why it's not primarily about placement, but simply about getting noticed.
And to work internationally as a fitness model and at the same time travel to explore many beautiful places.
In order to gain a lot of experience and of course to improve my performance, I should take part in as many competitions as possible.
The championships in the bikini class of the professional league have so far only taken place in America.
To date I haven't found a sponsor. Without looking snooty, I think it's pretty sad that you're the only German bikini pro who doesn't have a sponsor.
As athletes, we are role models and therefore play a key role in the sales of supplements.
Question: You are with the posing guru Mario Rieger. What is everyday life like in a sports family? Do you get very support from Mario?
Figen Özdemir: Everyday life with Mario Rieger is very exciting, varied, fun but also sometimes very stressful. You have to say, positive stress, which is good again. Due to Mario's show bookings, we are of course very often on the road. I try to accompany him as best I can.
We are always kept busy by Mario's dog Budges.
Of course, you can't complain about that - cardio unit is automatically scheduled.
Otherwise we like to go to the cinema and have a lot of fun with his two children.
