QUESTION: What was your training program like?

KARLSEN: I always did a seven-week cycle. I made Sets of four repetitions each.

For example, if I wanted to do four reps with 400 kg deadlifts, I did seven sets of four reps each and 258 kg in the first week.

The next week, it was six sets of four repetitions each and 272 kg. Then five sets of four repetitions and 300 kg.

I further reduced one set and added 20 kg.

It is felt easy the whole time. I used the system for any exercise I wanted to be strong at.

QUESTION: After winning the World’s Strongest Man in 2001, you said that you are not happy

KARLSEN: Right after the win, I thought, “Now what?” I was so close to becoming world champion in bodybuilding and powerlifting, and I was so close to becoming world champion in strongman too. I didn't know what else to do.
