Taylor Vince – Interview “ Vince is back…“

Taylor Vince – Interview “ Vince is back…“ (Mai 2007)

Q. Hello Vince. Thank you for taking the time for the interview with BODYBUILDING-XXL.

Vince Taylor. Yes, sure. I like Germany. I look forward to hearing new things from Berlin.

Q. You just mentioned it. You lived in Berlin for a long time. What did you like about Germany and what do you miss?

Vince Taylor (laughs). Curry sausage and doner kebab. Seriously now, I started my bodybuilding career in Berlin. There I competed in my first competition and enjoyed the stage atmosphere for the first time. I have very good memories of Germany. And now a great TIP from Vince Taylor, Chinese food tastes best in Germany (laughs).

Q. You talk a lot about food, what is your diet like in preparation and what changes in the bulking phase?

VINCE TAYLOR

Vince Taylor. Yes, that's right, I am a pleasure-loving person and good food is part of my quality of life. I try to eat healthy and fat-free all year round. In the off session, I don't count calories and Sunday is always a day where I eat what I have an appetite for. Since I'm one of the lucky ones with a fast metabolism, I don't worry too much about dieting. My colleagues very often envy me for that. In preparation for the competition, my diet-free day is canceled and I try to eat a little more disciplined.

Q. You are preparing right now, which is your next competition?

Vince Taylor. I am currently preparing for Arnold Classics. Countdown has started.

Q. Are you satisfied with your preparation?

Vince Taylor. Yes i am very satisfied. My body reacts very well to training, because my 4 year break is noticeable. I am well rested and hungry for exercise. After 30 years in business, I know my body and how to organize my training. Then there is the experience, which gives me the peace and serenity I need. I don't think as much about my weight, posing and a lot of unimportant things that just make the athletes unfocused and nervous as I used to do.

Q. How has your preparation changed over the past 20 years?

Vince Taylor. My training is very simple. I trained with medium weights and lots of reps. I do a lot of dumbbell and cable exercises. The new thing in my training is that I train the mandatory poses very intensively. Isometric muscle tension improves muscle endurance, coordination and the muscles become more defined and harder.

Q. What are your plans for this year?

VINCE TAYLOR

Vince Taylor. My biggest goal for 2007 is Mr. Olympia. I started the preparation in 2006. At Mr. O, I'll be presenting the best Vince ever „Vince is Back“ or in German "The old one is back".The preparation is going very well, I am satisfied.

Q. Are we going to see the Terminator Show again?

Vince Taylor. No, I don't think so, after so many years I would like to present something new so that it doesn't get too boring for the fans. For 2007 I have prepared something very special. It will be unforgettable. So don't miss out.

Q. Are you planning to perform in Germany?

Vince Taylor. Yes, I plan to. I want to come to Europe on the Grand Prix Tour after the Mr. O.

F. Let's come back to Mr. Olympia 2006 were you satisfied with your 11 places?

Vince Taylor. Yes, of course, that was a great success. My plan was to be on the Mr. O stage in 2007.

Q. What do you think of the 2006 results? Has Jay Cutler verdient gewonnen?

Vince Taylor. I think Jay is great too Ron Coleman is an "exceptional athlete".

Vince. I think Ron had a timing problem and that was Jay's big chance. He used it and dethroned Ron.

Q. Do you believe in Ronnie's comeback?

Vince Taylor. I think if he trains without injuries he can come back even bigger and get his crown back. Ronnie is a warrior, he doesn't like to be taken away from him. I believe in him!

Q. Many say the atmosphere backstage was very tense. How did you feel

Vince Taylor. It was fantastic, like a big party. It was almost like a family, we talked a lot. If you belong to "old school", then you know there can only be one Mr.O. The young athletes are very nervous and put too much pressure on themselves. Don't forget that homework is done at home and not on stage. Stress only makes you restless and unable to concentrate.

Q. Would you have dreamed of being on stage when you were 50?

Vince Taylor. Not really. I was lucky that I didn't suffer any serious injuries. And I can tell you, now it's really fun. You don't see everything first and doggedly.

Q. What is your biggest dream in bodybuilding?

Vince Taylor. I would like to be on stage again in Berlin. Where my career started.

Q. Finally, some advice for beginners?

Vince Taylor. Doesn't train that hard, about 10-15 reps per set. Two to three exercises per part of the body. Exercises with dumbbells and pulling cables improve muscle coordination and protect the joints. Doesn't take it all that seriously. Bodybuilding is a great adventure and a way of life.

Q. That is a nice closing word. Vince I and our readers wish you all the best in your preparation, don't let the diet get so difficult.

Vince Taylor (Laughter). Thank you Burger King has to go without me for a few weeks now.

Thank you for the interview.
