WHAT IS WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE?
The most popular protein in the world is by far Whey Protein lsolat (WPI).
And there are many good reasons for that. Whey protein is the water-soluble part of milk. Unlike whole milk, WPI does not contain lactose, cholesterol or fat. WPI is usually very high in protein (i.e. up to 96%) compared to other forms of protein, which can range from 10-50%. WPI contains a lot of L-cysteine, all nine essential amino acids (histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine) and all three branched chain amino acids (BCAAs = leucine, isoleucine and valine).
L-Cystein helps regulate blood sugar, reduces blood vessel inflammation and reduces exercise-related oxidative stress.
BCAA ( LEUCIN, ISOLEUCIN, VALIN) IN WHEY PROTEIN
The BCAAs are useful for reducing muscle soreness and speeding up muscle recovery from intense exercise.
WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE EFFECTS
Whey Protein Isolate is considered a "fast" protein because it is absorbed and digested very quickly, causing sharp increases in amino acid levels in the blood that last for an hour. This is particularly useful during the post-workout phase, where a rapid supply of amino acids to the muscles can quickly reverse the catabolic effects of resistance training. Many bodybuilders use WPI at breakfast in the morning for the same reasons.
WPI is very versatile because of the Digestion and absorption can be slowed down by mixing it with cow's milk (the 80 % Casein contains - a "slow" protein) or by consuming it with fats that are good for heart health and or foods high in fiber.
There is a muscle building snack between meals e.g. made from WPI mixed with a bit of natural peanut butter and one Handful of mixed berries.
WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE OTHER EFFECTS
Even if gaining massive muscle mass isn't one of your goals, there are other good reasons to use whey protein. These include improved satiety, blood pressure regulation, increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL cholesterol), and decreased triglyceride levels.
STUDIES ON WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE
Recent studies have shown that 20-25 g WPI in younger test subjects is enough to maximize muscle protein synthesis. For older test persons, however, up to 40 g are often necessary to achieve the same effect in the muscles.
One of the best proteins on the market to do this job too do is whey protein isolate.
FAZIT
A cross-flow micro / ultra filtered WPI is one of the highest quality proteins on the market today. In addition, training scientists have documented its muscle building effects for over a decade. Whey Protein Isolate is one of the most powerful and versatile proteins on the market.
