Interview with Daniel Wildt (September 2014)
Q: Hello Daniel. How do you feel as the second strongest man in Germany?
Daniel: I'm happy with the “second” this year, it wasn't a perfect season for me as I had some injuries!
Q: How did you get into weight training, how long have you been training?
Daniel: So I got into weight training through my friend and trainer Oliver Eichele, he asked me in 2005 whether I wanted to take part in the -105 German championships! So, from this year I have been doing strongman and since 2001 strength training!
Q: Which strongman disciplines do you like best?
Daniel: I actually like almost every discipline, but what I like best is truck pulling, various running disciplines where there's action behind them.
Q: How do you train? How do you prepare for a strongman competition?
Daniel: So after the end of the season, you will first train lightly to relieve the body again. And at the beginning of the year, the basic strength will be expanded.
For a competition, the disciplines are reviewed once a week 4-5 weeks earlier. So 3-4 disciplines are trained once a week during the season, which ones come, mostly depending on the competition I'm preparing for.
Q: Do you watch your diet? What does a strongman day look like?
Daniel: I actually eat a balanced diet, i.e. 6 meals a day.
I usually eat clean, but I don't say no to burgers, pizza and cakes!
Q: What would you recommend to young athletes who want to become successful strongmen?
Daniel: I can only say that if you train without a goal and without having fun, you will never be good! Therefore fight with the heart, heal injuries and you come back stronger.
It is worth it!
Q: What are your plans for 2015?
Daniel: The goal for 2015 is to bring my title back!
