Coleman Ronnie – Interview ( Nov. 2010)
Ronnie Coleman: Not really. It is difficult to judge yourself, that should be decided by others. My idols have always been Lee Haney und Arnold. I don't know if I'm better
Ronnie Coleman: No, never. I started exercising and competing because it gave me a free gym membership. It was just one way for me to save the gym money. I've viewed weight training as a hobby all my life. When I first started bodybuilding, it was still just a hobby. When I was in high school, I did almost all powerlifting and later trained just as I was taught.
Ronnie Coleman: That was when I was with Flex Wheeler beim Mister Olympia 1998 stood on the stage and we were the last remaining participants. That was exactly the moment.K. Which competition would you consider most important in your career?
Ronnie Coleman: The first Mr. Olympia which I won in 1998. I never expected it. At that point I was working as a cop and bodybuilding was just a hobby for me.K. How was your training after the first Mr. Olympia Title changed?
Ronnie Coleman: To be honest, I continued the same way, my training hasn't changed at all. It all worked fine, why should I change it?K. But you must have done something new to keep muscle development at such a high level. Did you change your diet?
Ronnie Coleman: Yes I have. I had a nutritionist, and Chad Nicholls changed my diet. We increased the protein intake and decreased the carbohydrates.K. As Mr. Olympia, you must have wanted to defend your title. How do you deal with the pressure as Mr. Olympia?
Ronnie Coleman: No, I wasn't under any pressure. I think that's because I enjoyed the time so much and it was so much fun. There was never any kind of pressure for me. I just made the most of what I had. I've always worked hard and pursued my goal with focus and dedication. Everything I had to do to win the show, I did.
K. What was your toughest competition as defending champion of the Mr. Olympia?
Ronnie Coleman: I've always seen myself as my toughest competition. I was always the one responsible for looking good in the end. My goal was always to get back to the form I had shown the year before and once I got there I tried to get even better. So I always tried to surpass my performance from the previous year.
K. Have you always trained with heavy weights?
Ronnie Coleman: Yes, I always trained hard. It has to do with genetics and everyone is different. You have to exercise in a way that works best for you and that you can progress with, contrary to popular belief that bodybuilding can be bad for the body.
K. What are the advantages of supplements over a healthy diet?
Ronnie Coleman: They help deliver the missing antioxidants that are good for your health and ensure that your body works optimally.
K. Have the 8 Mr. Olympia titles changed you?
Ronnie Coleman: No, in no way. I still see myself as a normal person.
K. Do you not miss being on the Mr. Olympia stage anymore?
Ronnie Coleman: No, it was so long and I had so much fun. People still see me as Mr. Olympia. The seats are always sold out at the events and guest postings I take part in.
K. Thanks for the interview.
Ronnie Coleman: Thank you too and greetings to all my fans.
